A couple days ago I burned some wind pants on my new bassani pipes on a quick trip to the store. I got home and used some easy off to get it off. It all came off but I had to apply a couple times to get it all off. Yesterday I noticed in that spot there are some marks that appear to be pits in the chrome. I can hang my thumb nail in them just slightly. I really can't tell if they are pits or small raised spots. Tonight I scrubbed on it with some never dull pretty good and it didn't touch it.
I guess I said all that to say...Is it possible that I left the easy off on too long and screwed up my brand new pipes? I'm pretty pissed.
But, I don't understand why people keep recommending Easy Off. WD40 with 0000 steel wool has taken off everything I ever put on my pipes. No smell, no funes, no mess!
I've used Easy-Off cold oven formula and never had a problem. The other thing you could do is a pre 1982 penny. The copper will not scratch the pipes and may be able to get those spots out. Just rub the edge on the spots. I've never heard of Easy-Off eating through Chrome

I always wondered this, and a few years ago my concerns were confirmed. I was at the dealership for something or other, and somebody brought this bike in. The owner had the bright idea of using Easy Off to clean his bike
