Another interesting ride home

Edit: also, that was still the clearest way through consider the accident was minutes old.
Something some of you guys need to remember is that I didn't KNOW there was oil on the ground like that until the woman in the video says something. It's easy to say after the fact "you should have done this or that"
The fact is that by the time I knew there was oil on the ground I was in it. Sudden movement to try and get out would've been a horrible idea. And there was NOT another clear path.

I'm glad it wasn't raining (like tomorrow is supposed to.) The oil slick would be spread out even farther and it would be hard to tell when it finally ended.
I'm glad you weren't 2-up.
I'm glad you got thru this unscathed.
All in all, you did a good job keeping your bike upright, good job!
I'd be very careful with your tires for awhile. Clean the siping with rubbing alcohol and q-tips. Ride carefully. Slowly/smoothly. The oiliness should be worn away fairly quickly. I wouldn't attack Palomar's Tightside until the tires look like they're CLEAN.

Oil is very unforgiving to a two wheeled vehicle!
In '76 I had a new Super-Glide and a friend of mine had to have one just like mine. He was a novice rider so one weekend I took him with me on a two-lane park road ride to get him some experience.
It was a very busy traffic weekend with lots of girls in skimpy attire and it was also a beautiful, bright sunny day, perfect weather.
Unfortunately, someone's car had took an oil "dump" and there was a huge puddle of oil in our lane.
I slowed to about 20-25 MPH and pointed to the puddle warn him to be careful.
I pulled my clutch lever in and very carefully "coasted" through the puddle.
I heard a noise and I saw some of the girls were pointing at something behind me and as I glanced in my mirrors I saw my friend's front wheel spinning and he and his bike were on the pavement!
No serious damage to his bike, only to his pride but I as I told him that could just as easily could have been me or anyone else.

Looked like the right shoulder was blocked with debris and a car. Going to the left of the truck didn't look like a sure thing either. No doubt cars were directly behind you so not much time to sit and debate what to do. Looks like the only thing to do was slow down and go onward and hope for the best. You had a better day than those involved in the wreck though.

Yikes!
I was stationed up at Mt. Laguna.
I can't imagine what it's like now- more cars, more debris.
