Whatever you do simultaneously plan a solo run. Friends and others have a way of dropping out the last minute and if your plans were tied to them your whole trip can get jacked.

My .02$ worth is never ride a long trip with people you haven't ridden with before. Some guys want to ride 100mph or 1' off you butt, others want to stop every 20 minutes and go 35mph.

Try and find 1 or 2 buddies that ride like you do, or go it alone.

Good solid advice ^^^. Another thing to consider is depending when you go, you'll link up with other solo riders and small groups even days out whether you want to or not. You're really not ever alone heading that way in late July or early August.

Every time I've ridden to Sturgis, I've run into others headed there at my first gas stop, which is usually in southern GA. Every gas station along the way had more bikers, surprisingly, most headed to Sturgis. Rode with some for a few miles and others for a day. Never did the whole trip with the same group though.

Great reply. I'm an Australian and have ridden across the US half a dozen times and been from one coast or other to Sturgis 4 times. I've never ended up arriving at my destination on these rides with the company I started with. Even when it's been other Australians who came over with me. To a couple of guys I love dearly, after a couple of days I just said "See you at Sturgis" Blokes want to fill up at different times, see different things, wake and sleep at different times. Just easier going on your own. With strangers it'd be harder still. But maybe you're not as cranky as me.
