We-40 was designed by NASA to displace water and it also works good as a bug tar and degreasers it is really a short term lubricant. NASA never had a patent on it so the original designers how made it retired he filed the patent and now probably owns his own island somewhere

I sell WD40 and many other lubricant brands. WD40 was great in the 60's and 70's because there was not much else available to the average consumer. Now I rate it at the bottom. Every time I have a customer ask for WD40 I give them a sample can of CRC 3-36 and they never ask for WD again.

I call that stuff kerosene in a can.

Any decent motorcycle paint will stand up to kerosene also.
Some of us have been known to spill gasoline from time to time.

I've never tried this but need to, since my bike is cover with them after each ride. And it might help the shine and act as a water repellent too.

I use WD40 to marinate my bikes for storage .Many decades now.I don't purposely lay it on paint but have never had problems with overspray. And one of my bikes (BMW)with pearl white paint says to specifically keep petroleum products off this finish.Owned since 88 ,not a worry....

I'd use machine oil or grease to lube any limited-motion parts like peg parts.

I think the aholes in California CARB have ruined whatever WD40 used to be anyway. It certainly isn't what it was from what I can tell. Can anyone confirm?

Worth a mention: Any riders that own an RV or Trailer have experience with black streaks on the siding. Spray WD-40 directly on the black streak, wipe with a bug sponge, black is gone. Was off residue with soap/water. Cheap and easy

DW-40 is good for external applications. In the firearms industry they say that the only difference between WD-40 and Loctite is 6 months.

We rode in South Louisiana and coastal Mississippi one April/May and had to clean Love Bugs off the bike hourly. When I got home the bugs had left a shadow imprint in the paint and none of the cleaning products would touch them but WD40 took them right off. Of course I then had to do a thorough cleaning and waxing to get the bike back to its show room glory. Had to do BOTH bikes this way. this was about 16 combined hours of cleaning and waxing. The ride was worth it and we would do it again, but not in April/May.
