Anyone ride with earplugs and communication/music in the helmet?

 

Behind the screen on my RK is similar to Heritage, most of the noise I get is road noise and engine braking noise. I get turbulence from wind coming around the shield. I use a full face Shoei (new model, forget name).

Anyways.. earplugs. They take out the roar and still let you hear what you want and need too. Meaning I can use my Sena just fine, its easier to use it with ear plugs than without. Just too much noise/booming from engine braking otherwise. I love the rumble of the exhaust and when accelerating, not at all off throttle.

As for wind noise even with shield I have been told to try the windsplitter?

 

I wear a Shoei RF1200 full face with earplugs every time. I have a Sena on it and can hear my music clear as a bell. Earplugs block out wind noise, allowing you to hear music, traffic, and the bike better.

 

I'm pretty happy with mine for the price. Its my first full face. I went cheaper because I wasn't sure if I would like it and didn't want to spend big $$. I absolutely love it. Its snell rated, comes with smoke and clear shields as well as a chin curtain and its comfortable to use without earplugs. Very little wind noise up to 75mph. For the money I don't think you cant beat it.

A good fitting full or modular is quieter than a poorly fitting one. Some brands are quieter, but for my shaped head, the HJC was the most comfortable and becasue it fit better, quieter than my full helmet.

But the trick we use is to raise the ear speakers so that they are closer to the ear. We do that by making a two sided velcro ear pad. It cuts wind noise and the speakers don't have to be pushed to be heard clearly. At 65+ it gets tougher to hear, but below that we can talk to each other or listen to music without any difficulty.

We use 3/4 with flip faceshields all summer and while not as quiet as our modulars, we have no trouble until we hit 55+. At 50 mph with our 1/2 helmets we get wind noise. On the 3/4 and the modulars we moved the ear speakers closer to the ear and it helped a great deal in both clarity and reduction of wind noise..

 

I second the Neotec. If you run a comm system with earbuds instead of speakers, it is ultra quiet.

Yes, and if you position them perfectly you can hear it very well. I have a sena SMH10. Dont expect booming bass but enough to hear it clearly. I have no issues with them and I usually dont have them cranked up all the way. About 50 to 75 % up.

 

Mine is far from quiet. I'm replacing it with something else for that reason.

 

We use Modular. With the wireless setup now will also be using good ear buds instead of speakers.
There are Ear buds that are designed to provide better bass. You have to look.
