I Miss the Dynas Already
#92
A long long time ago
I can still remember how
That Dyna used to make me smile
And I knew if I had my chance
That I could make that twin cam dance
And maybe I'd be happy for a while
But February made me shiver
With every twisted throttle I'd deliver
Bad news on the doorstep
I couldn't take one more step
I can't remember if I cried
When I read about the widowed glide
Something touched me deep inside
The day the Dyna died
So
Bye, bye to the Dyna glide
Drove my Dyna to the dealer but the dealer was dry
And them good ole boys were drinking whiskey and rye
Singin' this'll be the day I don’t ride
This'll be the day I don’t ride...
I can still remember how
That Dyna used to make me smile
And I knew if I had my chance
That I could make that twin cam dance
And maybe I'd be happy for a while
But February made me shiver
With every twisted throttle I'd deliver
Bad news on the doorstep
I couldn't take one more step
I can't remember if I cried
When I read about the widowed glide
Something touched me deep inside
The day the Dyna died

Drove my Dyna to the dealer but the dealer was dry
And them good ole boys were drinking whiskey and rye
Singin' this'll be the day I don’t ride

I have three left of the five that I have acquired since 2010. The first one and first to go was the Dyna Superglide. It went first as I wasn't interested in putting the money into it to resolve the head shaking at speed.
As time went on I added the 13 Street Bob. It was smooth at speed with no head shaking so I rewarded it with a 120R. Next was the 14 reintroduced Low Rider. Smooth and stable so I used it for some touring. The look of the LR is very appealing so it is likely to stay. The 15 Fat Bob was next. Really liked the style. But it was the worst vibrating bike that I ever had. I did tour with it and put 5,200 miles on it. I tried all the service bulletin procedures to cure Dyna vibration issues. That did result in a lessening of the vibrations but not enough. So I traded it for the 18 Fat Bob version which is an unparalleled improvement.
The last Dyna was the 16 LRS. Smooth, steady and a great performer.
I will not sell or trade the 13 Street Bob or the two Lowriders. They are keepers.
Not concerned about the end of the Dyna line because I will have some until I'm gone.

You're asking questions you already know the answers to and you know it. Regardless, I don't own a new Softail or a Dyna and I know which one I like and which one I don't.
For the sake of Harley Davidson I hope there are more rabid fans (like you) of the new design than there are detractors. It's good for the economy I personally live in.
But there is no denying there are many current Harley owners who aren't going to buy the new bikes, like myself. At least nothing from the current lineup. If they drop some weight from the touring line and add a bit of power, I might be interested in that. But for now my 2014 SGS works just fine at being a heavy touring bike. No need to "upgrade".
