harley ownership did go from being a badass in the 70s and possibly super early 80s to what it is today which is a fat old white man with a clip on pony tail and doo rag. Not too appealing. Thats why the only model i like is the FXSTC, still looks old school. Oh and the springer, every other model looks ugly to me.

EVERYBODY seems to have or have had a Harley now. Like I said before, it's no big deal to own one now. Every badazz, wanna-be and accountant "own" one. As far as "riding", well, all the low mileage HD's in the classifieds is proof enough of that.

Harley advertises on TV. Check out their ads during the X-Games, MMA events and the NCAA March Madness basketball tournament. TV commercials are very expensive. And they're not necessarily the best use for an ad budget. You see, young people live on social media. This is where you'll find Harley very active.

The problem with using this as an argument for Harley, is that there's very little actual Harley left in that Harley.

Another falt in the statement that H-D riding is declining is based on the lower sales in 17 of new bikes while mc registrations are rising. Half of the bikes sold in the US are H-D therefore it is logical that half the used bikes are H-D. So if there is a rise in 17 of mc registrations which are a combo of new and used bikes. with it being more used than new it means that there is rise in used sales of H-D.

Sorry but H-D riding is not in decline.

I don't know about sales numbers, new vs. used, etc. but in Vegas all motorcycle ridership seems to be down. However, scooters(Vespa type scooters) as opposed to motorcycles are popular here.

The out the door price of a new Harley is quite expensive and many people can’t afford such a costly toy.

I think many can and choose not too. I'm in that boat. M8 issues, the ABS brake thing, stale designs... many reasons.
