I was a ham operator in junior high and high school. I had my Advanced class license. Once I went to college there was no time. My license has long since expired.
As I understand it, in 1999 the FCC changed the license structure to just three classes and there is no longer a Morse code requirement. Probably for the Millennials. They may give you a trophy too when you pass the exam.

Actually, they got rid of the morse code requirement because of new digital modes like psk3 making morse redundant and slow. More info could be sent quicker in a data burst using less power in the same bandwidth. However the millenials still won't know what to do when infrastucture fails and cellphones cease working.
