This is about inline with a baseball person last year saying that the players making 25 mil per year deserve to make a 'decent living wage', so it is OK to pay them their market value....
Over $11M last year. Geez he has my sympathy regarding having to eat at the local soup lines. Oh I know, someone here will stick up for him and state he's worth every penny.
I have no problem paying a man what he is worth. I don't think Matt Levatich is worth it. He is losing market share and stock value. Why should he be getting 11 million dollars a year, while they are closing plants?
I personally would not want his job. That is a lot of pressure, your responsible for 1000’s of people, the dealers are always wanting more, the share holders are expecting more and more and more. The economy, competition, fuel prizes, cost of raw materials and all else involved in manufacturing are a bitch and out of your control. Travel is usually excessive and you never get away from the job! Plus you have to deal with people that have not invested in the education, have not worked their way up to this level and paid their dues, but simply want to bitch!
I am not defending the job he has done, just saying most earn what they make.

If he worked for free, the bikes would cost $50 less. He works for the owners, who set his pay. Other opinions about this basically amount to communism.

Ding ding ding. Winnah! Not about being a marxist, just about paying someone a lot and then expecting results for that money.

Sure, but the only opinion that really matters is that of the stockholders. It takes someone of skill and guts to make tough decisions. Maybe another CEO would have driven the company to bankruptcy. As with most things, it's not that simple.
I ride a Harley Davidson, so i guess I paid my fair share of his wages, so therefore I can't gripe. I don't pay into the United Way after i found out how much the head honcho makes.
