I went from Sporty (still have it) to RKC for a few years then traded it in for Ultra. Skip any bikes between Sportster and Touring Bike was the wisest choice I ever made. Never looked back or regretted it one a bit.

I went from a 48 to Low Rider S. Some days I miss the Sporty for around town riding but I bought the Dyna for longer distances. A geezer glide is out of the question since I'm not that close to nursing home age!

yeah I stated earlier its really about what kind of riding you want to do, if you are purely around town, a Sportster, if you are around town with some commuting on the highway, Dyna, Softail, if you want to really get into Touring the country, its logical to have a FLH or touring bike. Nothing against a big guy who wants a big bike, but I don't have a need for a Touring bike. I have seen many a bar hopping touring bikes, its fun to watch a guy being tipsy out of the watering hole parking lot on his big bike that is too heavy and too powerful for his beginner rider self

I doubt very seriously if the new models handle anywhere near as well but, again, I haven’t ridden one so maybe I’m wrong.
You ARE wrong. The 2018 Softails handle and ride MUCH better than the Dynas did. And I say that as an owner of a 2014 Dyna Fat Bob with lots of handling upgrades.

I now have a 2018 Softail Fat Bob and it's pretty much a night and day difference in favour of the 2018.

I would totally recommend a 2018 114" Fat Bob to the OP. Go test ride and see if you fall in love.

I went from a Sportster 1200 Custom to a Dyna Wide Glide. Last year I traded for a Low Rider S.

Each one of the motorcycles had their own special features and things I liked.

I would recommend making a list of the different model's that you are interested in and then go test drive them all. After the test ride the motorcycle that feels right for you usually will become obvious.

Sometimes you can modify the motorcycle to be a hybrid of several motorcycles. I have made my Low Rider S into a hybrid of my Sportster 1200 Custom and Wide Glide.

rubbish.... it's still as sportster. still sucks on the highway. wasting all the money in the would modding it ain't gonna change that unless it's cramming a bigger engine in it.

it's just not the right tool for the job. folks go through all that and just end up with the same old bike. that "set it up" stuff is pointless. spend that money on the right tool, not putting lipstick on a pig.

The logical upgrade would probably be an Indian scout .

There is only 1 Harley that really fits your requirements.

The FXR was referred to as a sportster on steroids!!!
