Default Seat shaving

Good day all. I'm calling out to anyone who has done a seat shaving on their ultra limited or street glide seat. I need to get closer to the ground. If you have, was it worth it? My local Harley dealer, Barrie Harley in Ontario Canada does it for $130 with great results.. Thanks

There are some ventors on the site who do seat modifications. Yes its worth it thats a good price you have have read about others doing what you are. Any good seat upgrades or worth it for the comfort alone. Go for it gets you closer to the ground.

Thanks PDB17UltraRG. I'm going to give it a try. I've got two seats for 2012 Ultra Limited, stock and Street Glide. I just hope I don't sacrifice to much comfort.

I took my solo Road King seat apart and narrowed the plastic mold and the shaved the foam. I stapled it back together and am happy with the way it looks and feels. take your time you can do it !!!

Thanks Dirty Harry. I'm a handy guy. I was going to attempt it myself. But my WIFE actually agreed to spend the money and let someone else do it. (Trust me brother. This is a very rare event and I'm taking it.)

The problem with shaving down a OEM seat is the quality of the foam is not the best and now your making it thinner and your comfort is going to suffer unless you cut away more than needed and then build seat back with a good quality memory foam or maybe a gel pad.

Thanks GTX. I will definitely ask if they will be replacing the foam they remove with some better foam or gel.

I am short (5'7") and got an 04 Road King from my bro-in-law with an Ultimate seat on it. I gather they (Ultimates) are thick/wide and expensive. (no comparison-just what I've read) Very comfy as an original seat, but I couldn't reach the ground very well....

. Still, it did not stop me from ripping out the staples, getting out the black marker, stealing my wife's bread carving knife and shaving an inch or more off the top and sides, and then smoothing that mess out with a rasp and then coarse sand paper.
Likely spent 2-3 hours just being careful then stapling it all back together.

Net result is I was a little closer to the ground and could almost flat foot the bike afterwards.

Bought even bigger boots and then 1" shorter shocks.

Whew-finally can flat foot the bike now.

I did watch a few youtube videos to get an idea what I was into before starting, but really after ripping off the vinyl (or leather) cover, you're on your own.

I have been considering having my stock street glide seat reworked vs buying a tall guy seat.. just have yet to pull the trigger.
