Default Negotiating ESP contract 2 yrs later

My bikes factory warranty will be up 3 weeks and I'm seriously considering getting the HD ESP. I missed the min 30 day window for DiscountsESP, so thats out. I did not purchase the ESP when I bought the bike as I didnt think I'd have it f or more than a yr. My local dealer today quoted approx $2200 for 3 yrs with wheels/tires coverage. I did not buy this bike from them, but they said they can sell me the ESP coverage. Bike is all stock with no plans to change anything. I know this coverage is negotiable when purchasing a bike, unsure of now though, 2 yrs later. Has anyone purchased the ESP from a dealer before the factory warranty expires and able to negotiate the price, or is it a 'this is the price'?
Thanks

I bought my 2014 Heritage a few months before the factory warranty expired. I shopped around for an ESP from a few different dealers in the area before the warranty expired and they all quoted me the same price. They would not budge. I ended up not getting it and taking my chances that the bike would be reliable enough that I would not have any big expenses in the future.

Had you talked to Jim or Kathy at Boardtracker HD and ask if its possible they would back date your application for the ESP since your so close.

I have a 25 year-old Evo with over 100,000 miles on it.
It hasn't needed $2200 worth of repair in 10 years, let alone 3.

I just spoke to Kathy at Discountesp. My esp expires next week. She said no problem send her a pix of the odometer and they had a 30 day and 300 mile exemption in case of a pre existing condition. sounds fair to me. Can get up to a 5 year esp. I hate to spend the money but a $50 bill seems better than the alternative. Depends on how much you ride. Give them a call.

" If your current motorcycle is out of coverage and now purchasing extended coverage from Discount ESP, no claims can be made for 30 days and/or 300 miles, whichever is greater. Our contract specialists may require an inspection of the motorcycle; however, a photo verification of the odometer is required once the contract has been purchased. A contract specialist will provide instructions on how to properly verify your odometer. "

Sorry...but ESP, is like a high interest loan. You are betting against all of the reliability engineers. It’s for cash strapped owners.

Esp is a great choice. Purely for the Peace of Mind. It's exactly like insurance. I find it funny that the people who rag on it more than likely have fully comprehensive insurance which is doing the same thing.

In my opinion, ESP is great coverage / piece of mind for those cross-country folks given that it includes tow service, hotel, vehicle rental, and you can extend it up to the 16 year mark. I don't blame people for getting it who keep their bikes long term.

This is what I like to see as a newer Sporty owner.

Well, there you go Tri Geezer. It's a great choice. Facts are facts.

I guess if it helps you sleep thru the night, enjoy. I sleep thru the night knowing I have this magical stuff called "Cash" around to pay for repairs.

Not understanding the peace of mind thing- sounds like what the F& I guys say when they pitch the product. If not having a service plan on my bike was so worrysome that it kept me awake at night, I'd probably not own a bike in the first place.

Just got done with a 4500 mile ride over 2 weeks. Hotels and towing were available to me had I needed them, just have to pay for them out of pocket. With my magical cash stuff.
And I'm running a 4 year old Rushmore Wet Head- not very many bikes out there with as many time bombs waiting to go off as this one.

While I know it is a gamble, I don't buy extended warranties. They are priced so that they cost more than the benefit. If you play the odds and don't buy them on anything you buy, you are going to do much better in the long run. There are lots of articles out there from pretty smart consumer writers, advising you not to buy them - Google them.
