If you rev it up too high and/or for too long before the oil gets a chance to circulate, you can add wear and tear
to the pistons/ring/etc. more than if you waited until the engine oil got around. Rule of thumb I believe is
let it run 30-40 seconds before pounding on it. I don't think that's a hard rule, just a guideline.
A couple quick blips probably wouldn't hurt anything.

Lauren, he's probably not hurting anything but he is not helping anything either. If he does it every time he starts his bike it is probably habitual and he doesn't even realize he's doing it.
The next time he starts his bike, put your hands over your ears while he revs the engine. He'll likely ask you why you did that. Then open his eyes to fact that he revs his engine twice every time he starts his bike. Maybe he'll have an epiphany and stop. Then again, maybe not. Ask his wife why he does it. Maybe she knows.

Every time I see someone revving the heck out of their bike just to make attention noise whether Harley or sport bike I think South Park really nailed it.

A guy I ride with has a CVO SG and every time he starts his bike he does 2 vroom vrooms. I try not to park by him because it's loud and obnoxious and hurts my ears.
Is it bad for the bike? His bike is always in the shop for engine work so I just wonder if he is causing some of the problems.

Years ago, Howard Cosell was interviewing Bubba Smith after a game. Howard said, "Bubba, off the record, how do all you black guys have big dicks?" Bubba answered, "Howard, with me, before I get in bed at night I hit my dick on the bedpost three times... whap, whap, whap." So Cosell finished work and got home late when his wife was already in bed. Before Howard climbed in, he hit his dick on the bedpost three times... whap, whap, whap. His wife woke up, "Is that you, Bubba?"
