Default 03 ironhorse

Hello
I guess i need some assurance. I inherited an 03 ironhorse chopper that has been sitting for about 12 years. Gas tank has rust and the bike has been sitting indoors since then. The bike was basically free. My worry is that this thing might end up costing me $5k or more to fix and break down all the time. Owner claimed it has about 600 miles and that’s it. It’s just been sitting.
Do you think it’s worth me trying with a budget for around $5k? Or should I sell it as is?
Thanks In advance

If it has been sitting out of the weather then I would go for it! Check out this video for some good tips

It had been sitting inside his house but we have a lot of humidity in Houston so I’m guessing that’s why the tank rusted. Thank you very much for your response and the video. I believe I’m going to drop a little money jnto it. Wish me luck.

Is shouldn’t cost 5000 to repair just start with the basics get the gas tank cleaned and redcoated change your oils tires brake fluid. Go over the rest as you can good luck.

Thanks for the advise. I’m going to start with all of that first. I was really worried about the tank but from what i found online, it can be cleaned out. I appreciate your feedback.

Most likely, it will not cost $5k, but since I haven't seen the bike, I can't say for sure. PDB's advice is a good start.

All Ironhorse bikes had S&S engines so that should be good. Have heard of speedo complaints, but who needs a speedo?

Might be able to find a tank on eBay.

Have fun, it was free, you got some wiggle room.

Battery, tires, tank, carb, fresh fluids including brake fluid and fork oil. Start with those things and I bet its not even close to $5000. Maybe $2000 or so. Anything past that stuff you can tackle as you go.
