Funny, I've also used that phrase to describe California, "3rd world country..."
Come to think of it, it isn't really funny. Pathetic maybe, but not "funny."

Today my buds and I did a ride thru the Hill Country, did one of the "Twisted Sisters", roughly 80 miles west of IH 35. We had this discussion over lunch at "The Bent Rim Grill" out in Leakey over if we had a chance to sell and move, where to. Bandera, Kerrville and all points in between those two got a lot of nods.

“Loved Ca. is fast turning this into a communist 3rd world country, time to go. I've also used that phrase to describe California, "3rd world country.....Come to think of it, it isn't really funny. Pathetic maybe, but not "funny."
Walla Walla is a nice area we've been there a few times, don't rule out Asotin and Clarkston. The Snake River keeps the winters pretty mild. We like the Clearwater river valley in Idaho for the same reasons...we can't wait to get out of socal.”
WA is quickly going the way of California (or are the CCA moving to WA, not sure) and we can't wait to get out.
That area or ID/WA is beautiful, lots of twisties with river views but I would lean towards the ID side vs WA.
That side of WA does not have much of a voice due to the population on the wet side.
The only negative is the winters, but some people like four seasons.
I don't mind them as long as I don't have to live in them.
Once we retire and relocate (settle in) if we have enough capital we may buy some land or a place in the panhandle area (or a little south, but in the north).
Summers are great, I try to make at least one trip through there every year going to (or coming back from) my fathers place.
