Have you tried to replicate the problem in a parking lot or open road? I would be curious to see if it happened again or if the ABS would work as intended. Have you ever tested or had to use the ABS since you got the bike? Something that should be done at least every riding season so you don't get a surprise like this when you really need them.

it shouldn't matter what order you go for the brakes, the abs should work either way. with the linked brakes, the rear does activate one front caliper, but then grabbing the front lever should activate both, so again, shouldn't make a difference.

i still think that even if he had been 'modulating' the front brake, that it would have had no effect on the rear abs.

Agreed. If the system behaved as described above in #16 it would be a serious design defect.

Yeah, I have ESP. Rode with the wife today so trying to duplicate the issue did not happen. I did however find that my ABS would light amber and stay that way until I shut the bike off for a bit. Guess at this point it is up to HD.

Word of advice, work on the skill set. NEVER rely on ABS alone to bail you out, harley has never got it right.

yeah, what he said ^

abs is there to protect you in the event you make a mistake. you should practice your skills every time you ride.

I’m not reading this as him relying on the ABS, he just found out that it may not be working correctly and he wants to know why. I doubt his lack of skills are the issue here.

He was using the skills he still wouldn't know the abs didn't work, human nature gets complacent when they know there's a safety net.

Isn't a dig just a reminder we all do it
