Resale value.
I was thinking about something.
I am sure I am about to step in it waist deep, but here goes.
New Harley OTD is what, around 18,000$
Around 3000$ for the mandatory stage 1
Around 3000$ for the mandatory bling
So total investment is around 24,000$.
Am I close?
Resale in 1 year for 15 to 16,000$
Thats a loss in the neighborhood of 8,000$
Metric cruiser OTD is around 11,000$
Resale in 1 year for around 7,000 to 9,000 $. Well use 7,000$ just for the heck of it.
Not going to figure in any modifications since it appears most don't install mods on Metrics, and for comparable mods, they seem to be about half he price anyway.
So you have a loss of 4000$
Even if you did 4000$ worth of mods( you can get allot done on a metric for 4 grand) your value would be at 9000$, so your loss would be 6,000$
Still 2000$ less than the Harley.
The big twin Metrics( over 1100cc) haven't been around for very long, but I don't see any selling for less than 5000$ for a loss of around 6000$. Up to 10,000$ if they were modded with up to 4,000$ in mods.
I see a lot of blinged and modded mid to late 90s Harley's selling for 13,000 to 14,000$. Thats a loss of aound 10,000$ or so.
So it seems that the resale is more on a used Harley, but after figuring initial investments, and aftermarket investments, depreciation is pretty close to the same.
Am I missing something here?

My Dyna cost $14,000 out the door. Some pay $20,000 out the door.
It doesn't take $3000 for stage 1. But if you want to spend that much, be my guest.
Mandatory $3000 bling? Nothing is mandatory if you don't want it.
You don't invest in a motorcycle, you buy a motorcycle. Invest in real estate, stocks, bonds and others that offer a return for your money.
Resale in one year. Buy any car, boat, plane or anything else and see what it's worth after one year. That's when the most depreciation is.
Some metric cruisers are $11,000 out the door. many are not.

Absolute bulltucky. Wrong on both counts.
I can't go on. This is ridiculous.

Keep hanging around, it will sink in sooner or later. I agree with Tripper and AZ Rider, besides my stage 1, Rush performance exhaust and remap only cost me altogether about $850 ... and I love the results.
