Checking oil on new vs Shovels and older bikes:

No puddle under new bike = good (no leak)
No puddle under old bike = Bad (No oil in tank)

I learn where my oil level is when engine’s hot and cold so I know and not making a guess. I do this on all my engines. Simple

Boy I must be real dump, I check my oil after a ride to ascertain the level of the oil in relation to the full mark, if it's over then I remove some with turkey baster. I then check it in the morning after the engine cools over night and I ascertain the level of a cold engine. From that point on I am keenly aware of my oil levels. Works for me on all three bikes.

When in doubt, read the instructions.

Does the factory manuel indicate where to put the dip stick while adding oil?

This is always the way i do it. Once you know what the hot mark is relation to where the level is when cold it's easy .
