Apes
Paper will get wet and disintegrate, wire mesh will crush, rubber tube will slide around. I've tried all of them on my 03 RK with 18 " apes. The solution "I" used was.... Drill a hole on both sides of top of clamp and into bars(not too far or you'll hit internal wires), then tap a steel roll pin into holes leaving a small amount sticking above clamp to grab with vise grips if you have to remove. I'm 6' 245 lbs and use the bars to pull bike back out of parking place. Had them on for 13 years with no problems.

When you tighten the bars down the points on the washer dig into the riser and the bars and they won't move.If you want to change the angle later simply loosen the clamp move the bars do desired position and re-tighten.
