Motorcycle accidents making national news
#21
Here the report is ALWAYS "A MOTORCYCLE STRUCK A CAR KILLING THE RIDER".
It is NEVER "AN AUTOMOBILE TURNED LEFT IN FRONT OF A MOTORCYCLE KILLING THE RIDER"---even though that is the case most of the time. It will say that way down toward the end of the story.

A couple of items , the killing of seven riders in NH may have brought some attention to MC riders or the media is trying to string along the dangers of motorcycling. Another is when an accident involves a motorcycle tell the public what the "distraction" was. The media will at times mention "the teen was reaching for the cell phone and crossed the centerline" causing the head on collision.

I agree with this. Continually emphasize to people that there are others on the road beside them. Statistically, most injuries/deaths from riding are caused by some vehicle making a left turn across the path of a bike. ANYTHING that opens peoples' eyes is fine with me!

The people who write up these "news" stories are clueless when it comes to motorcycles. "Not wearing a helmet" is to same to them as saying the biker deserved whatever happened to him.

I beleive there are bad drivers out there who would decide that it wasnt their fault if they killed a biker. they would justify it by saying " they shouldnt have been out here on a motorcycle" its a very unaccountable socirety these days.

Oh so true! I got into a short argument one day with a blue hair who said she didn't like motorcycles because they were in her blind spot. I replied that she is supposed to turn her damned head, and if she can't do that, she shouldn't be driving. End of discussion.

I watch safety rider courses on YouTube and there is a guy called MCRider. In one of his vids he states that if you experience several close calls weekly, you should reassess you riding habits. Just sayin

Most businesses operate on the principal that money is not a bad thing. Move product, make money. The more product you move, the more money you make.
Media is a business. Which moves more product?
1.) a car hitting another car in a turn in some random part of the country
2.) two stupid kids slam into each other riding like jack-asses in SoCal
Two stupid kids slamming into each other riding like jack-asses in SoCal moves more product. This thread is good example of that in action.
