Today started off normal, and quickly went downhill, ending with my starter sh*tting the bed, forcing me to cancel my trip to Gettysburg because the parts won't be here until Monday at the earliest... seems the starter clutch died first, and caused the pinion gear to only come out partially, which chewed up the ring gear on the clutch basket and it's own teeth. The only good news is that I have the extended warrantee and it will cover this... this almsot makes up the cost of the warrantee...

Nothing like planning a trip for 6 months and getting f**ked by the fickle finger of fate the day before you're supposed to leave! [:@]

There is always a good side to every story. At least you were still home, and close to your dealer. Just think, you could've been in BFE and broke down, waiting for a tow on the side of the road. I think that would've been worse.

True enough... the starter gave up altogether in the dealer's parking lot... but man, I am so bummed about missing GBW, and meeting all the floks I was so looking forward to meeting... I rarely get REALLY disappointed when sh*t happens and plans fall through - that's life, but this one stings a lot.

That sucks!! I had a similar incident happen to me last year the day before we left for Gettysburg. I had an electrical problem that I could not trace down, and was getting very frustrated. So I called the guys I was going to ride with to tell them about my problem and I would not be making the ride. Turns out a good friend who was going to ride along with us had to work at the last minute and offered me the use of his 05 Sportster. I was surprised, and reluctantly acceppted the offer, I usually dont like to ride other peoples bikes, but we had planned this ride for about 3 months and I wasnt about to let electrical gremlins spoil it for me. Turned out to be a good trip after all.
