Default Lost Compression

Hi all. Don't know if there has been a previous chat about this, but I have lost compression on the front cylinder of my 54 panhead. As soon as I move the kick start pedal I get a whoosh from the front oil breather hole, below the front exhaust valve spring! Checked compression, front 35 dry, 60 wet, rear 60 dry, 80 wet.all without carb fitted. Smoke detector shows nothing. Have changed head gasket twice, with James gaskets. Help. Rings maybe?

Did you rule out a stuck valve when you had the head off?

Yup. Valves tight as, although I will lap them in again when I put it back together.

chopcult.com has a few member that are versed in the Panhead. Might post a question there in the American Bikes forum

We've got more than a few in here that are very good.

Op Welcome to the forum and go over to the pan section.
