Default My Serial #

Maybe a dumb question, but I need to ID the year of my Evo motor in my chopper. Serial # BLLL012740. Is it a 1990, 2000 or a different year ?

check here: http://www.harley-performance.com/harley-vin.html

i don't think you have a harley code there. the abbreviated engine code (from 81 on), should be 10 digits. the last 6 digits would be the sequential code, you only have 5. the first 4 would be the model, engine type and model year.

1990 – L

Count back from the last # which would be the 17th. to the 10th #. L=1990 (they eliminate the first four digits on the motor #)

1981 to 2000 model big twins Single letter in the 10th digit designates the model year.

I know Twinkies started in '98, but couldn't remember when Evos stopped. I stand corrected.

BL L L 012740
BL - Softail Springer FXSTS
L - 1340cc Evolution engine
L- 1990 Model year
012740 VIN sequence # assigned
Original VIN would have been 1HD1BLL15LY012704 (complete with outstanding recalls?) https://serviceinfo.harley-davidson....vehicle/index#

Last year of the Touring and Dyna, Evo's were 98, Softails was 99, and they had the Evo FXR4's in 2000. They also sold new Evo crate motors for years until they used up the inventory, I would guess they were probably cast the last couple years of production.
