Default Chrome Tank Trim Fitment

I have a 2003 Anniversary edition XL1200C with a couple of nicks in the 3.3 gallon tank top. One of these (picture) would completely cover them, but seems like everyone says this won't fit my tank. When I ask, does it not fit, or is it just not original, I get crickets.

Anyone here know the answer to my question?

The pic is of one that is for sale on eBay.

Yeh, otherwise I'd just try it.

Harley site says the part fits starting in 2004. There must have been some tank change that year.

Guys- that's what I'm asking if anyone knows about.

HD will only list fitment as it was original to a specific year, not by whether or not it fits other years.

there is a serious tank change between 2003 3.3 gallon, and 2004 4.5 gallon. but that doesn't mean that it won't fit, though there is a very good chance that it won't.

have you looked at a leather bib?

I believe '04 was the 1st year rubbermount engine also.
Not sure if that has anything to do with it, but that strap looks a bit too long for a 3.3 galon tank.

Ask the seller the size of the tank it came off of. Even within the same model year Sportsters can have different sized tanks.

2003 was the last year of solid mount Sportsters.

This shows most major changes by model year.

How much does the part cost? You could buy it and if it doesn’t fit resell it.
