Default Watch out for "IT FITS"

I'm recently noticing a trend when shopping online for motorcycle parts, specifically that some websites have a feature where you can type in your specific motorcycle, by Make, year, and model, to sort what parts they sell that will fit your exact motorcycle. Well, the more I shop, the more I'm seeing crap listed as fitting that I know just by looking at it that it DOES NOT FIT!. For example, after putting in 2011 Harley-Davidson and choosing Crossbones, I see items listed that fit on standard forks when the Crossbones doesn't even have standard forks. I was looking at taillights and see lights with the license plate light on top showing as "EXACT FIT" when my bike's license hangs under the taillight. I see replacement headlights with a single prong, when mine is a three-prong plug, etc. etc.

Amazon does this, and I've seen it on Dennis Kirk, and I forget now how many other sites doing this. I suppose my point is BUYER BEWARE. It's too bad you can't trust these sites truth in advertising. If/When there is a class action lawsuit about this I'll be the first in line to sign up.

The bean counters probably have algorithms of how many will get po’d but not go through the process of sending it back for credit. “They can always sell it on eBay”..

This goes without saying, but I've never see it this bad, and I've bought many items online for my other bikes with no fitment problems.

I almost always cross check part numbers to the manufacturer's site or other "reliable" sites before placing an order. (I do usually shop around for the best deals.)

In my experience, especially looking at parts for my truck Amazon's fitment charts are wildly inaccurate. eBay's many times too.

Yep. Gotta love Amazon's liberal return policy though. You'd think that after x number of returns for inaccurate description, they'd remove it from the marketplace, but nope. They keep hoping suckers will indeed buy and not want to bother with the return as was previously stated above.

I'll typically do this DEFINITELY on anything costly, but for instance I just ordered a pair of tinted lens for my turn signals that cost $12.00, and there was no manufacture listed, so I gambled and they worked out great (perfect fit). Seems like some sellers are gambling on you buying and just not hassling with returning, even if it might give them a bad rep. This is of course why word of mouth is so important. I love sharing a good deal that works out and will also go out of my way to warn others if I get ripped off.

Most of the sellers have never been to America nor even seen a Harley in person. Just copies of stolen patents....

Well with a little effort…anything can fit.
