precision instruments makes snap on amd other maker wrenches. you can get a precision torque wrench for substantially less than what the same snapon runs. id probably look at the twin beam click models since those arent sensitive to being backed off when not in use like the twist handle ones are. as far as range, id want 2, one 1/4 drive in inch lbs and a 3/8 drive that starts at like 5 or 10 ftlbs and probably goes to 80 or so. thatll get you quite a bit done although really not ideal. i own a 1/4 drive for inlbs, a 3/8 that runs like 10ftlbs-90 and a 1/2 drive that goes 50-250.

Harbor freight has torque wrenches for 12 bucks.
They work just fine.
Buy one of each.
1/4, 3/8 and 1/2 inch drive.
You will see the same wrench in other stores at 2 to 10 times the price.
You can afford to buy all of them.

I bought a Horrible Fright 1/2" drive and put it in my toolbox until I needed it. 6-8 months later, and straight out of the box, it never clicked a single time. It's a $20 breaker bar that won't even ratchet; it's locked up tight. HF told me that even with a receipt, it's non-returnable after 90 days.

I have a inch lbs Harbor freight torque wrench I have used for years. It clicks exactly at the same as my Sil snap on brand. I’m not saying all their cheap torque wrenches are great but I don’t throw the baby out with the wash water..

If your buying a Torque Wrench, invest in a Quality Tool. I've found Great Deals at Pawn Shops on Snap On, Mac, etc.

I have 5 torque wrenches ... All are Snap-On ... Not familiar with more affordable brands ... I'm sure someone will chime in with a brand for you OP

Lucky you... all the pawn shops here in south Texas have about the same price on the quality stuff as the tool truck does on new.

BINGO!! Made in USA ...not stupid expensive- pricey but considering the importance of accuracy in torquing it's worth a splurge! I've always used click but the dial ones seem to go lower in lbs...my 3/8 drive starts at about 5 ft lb...suggestions for an IN-lb in the precision line??
