Dunlop or Metzler?

RE: Dunlop or Metzler?
I went from Dunlop's to Metzeler's on both my Sportster and my Road King Classic. It was the right thing to do. I did a 368 mile loop around Southern Nevada today and got on a road that I had never driven. While going down a mountain pass I entered what looked to be a long sweeping curve of constant radius. It proved to be a decreasing radius. I had a brief thought that I might be in trouble at the speed I entered the curve. I kept cranking in the counter-steer and the RKC just leaned in and took the curve without any protest. I think that I could have been in trouble with Dunlops. I spent some time in upstate Michigan recently on the RKC. I rode lots of rain soaked roads without a slip or bad feeling. I also crossed the Mackinac Bridge on both the steel grating and the asphalt with a measured 45 mph cross wind. The bike handled perfectly on both surfaces and while transitioning back and forth on the two surfaces.

I'm good with the Dunlops. I've ridden over 100K miles on them and I never had a tire problem. They handle well on wet or dry pavement and get excellent mileage.

IMO, depends on your riding style. If you always ride easy and never expect to get into a situation where you need to push your bike to the limit, the Dunlops will ride fine and provide longer tread life. But if you ride aggressively, the Metzlers will provide much better handling at the expense of tread life.
My vote goes to the Metzlers... I'll be putting a set on next week.

The way I see it is the only advantage is unless you are pushing the bike to it's traction limits it is not worth changing over.My RK will grind off the lower metal long before the tires start to slip.

Mine came with some really worn Dunlop 402's, which I replaced with the K591's. I loved the 591's on my XJ600, and was disappointed when they were discontinued. I was glad that they still made them for HD, the wet and dry handling are great. I wasn't crazy about the 402's, but again, they were mostly square when I bought the bike. The 591's were good for 8K rear 16K front on the Yamaha, but I rode that pretty hard, we'll see how they last on the FXR.

I replaced the rear tire on my EGC with a Metz 880. It's a good tire, but I can't tell abig difference in performance. I will probably go back to either a Dunlap or Avon for price.

RE: Dunlop or Metzler?
I have just replace the rear for the second time and I must say that I am still using Dunlop. I have 23K on the front and I refuse to mix and I guess with the tread life of the front I am not going to anything different any time soon. I have had no problems with traction in dry and wet and I do enough of both. My only problem is with crusher run(gravel). Now that scares me.....
