detonation
I have a 2006 Electra Glide with the 95 cu inch engine. Runs great- no complaint except that it pings/detonates fairly routinely at about 3000 rpm. This pinging even takes place without a passenger or baggage. It certainly takes place if I am climbing a steep hill but may even take place if I am riding into a headwind. It may even take place if I am just riding in 5th gear on flat land and turn up the throttle to pass a car.
Seems weird especially on a 95 cu inch.
Anyone have some experience or clues? I am putting the hi-grade unleaded in the tank.
Thanks.

RE: detonation
I had a similar problem with my '06 FLSTCI. I had installed the platnum plugs during the winter the yearI bought the bike. The next summer, it pinged like crazy. I read, on this forum, that the platnum plugs retain enough heat to ignite the air fuel mixture without sparking. I installed a stock set of HD plugs and haven't had a problem since.

RE: detonation
You need some fuel/timming adjustments. What are you using for fuel tunning?
I had that issue with my HQ 95, I have a Mikuni 42 with DTT igntion and HQ timming curve.
I had to change the imultion tube in the carb first, then change the Jet needle position until it went away.
in my case I had to cut some fuel out of the low range and add some fuel in the 1/2 to 3/4 thottle zone to fix the problem.
Stock V rod plugs work in TCs and are a step or two cooler than the OE plugs.
