Default Good service manual?

Just wondering if anybody can reccommend a good service manual for a 2005 FLSTSCI Springer Classic? I see that the dealer has one (for all 2005 Softails)listedat$65, but before I purchase it I want to make sure there isn't a better (or cheaper) one out there. Thanks for any/all info. -Chad

My personal preference is to go with the HD manuals and the colloquial wisdom found in the DIY and Tech sections of this forum.

Factory manual isbetter according to many reports on this forum. Clymer puts out a cheaper one for around $25 which is not bad at all. Its fine for routine service and has a lot of more serious stuff as well.

I have the Clymers'. Real comprehensive and less than half the dealers price. And it has S.E. supplement as well. (Included.)

It never ceases to amaze me how one can seemingly have little difficulties forking over some $20 grand for a bike. Yet, in the same breath, have reservations toward spending an additional $65.00 dollars for something which will aide in keeping that very vehicle in good working order?????

What he said, there is not a book to compare with the factory service manual. The labor saved on the first service will cover the cost.

Why is this always the argument?
I know I shopped around before spending any money on the bike and on the subsequent parts and service. If I took the first opinion, or price, based on the amount I have spent in the past I could have spent several thousand more for the same or similar item. I think the question is valid, maybe more valid than the cost of nitrogen for your tires. After all you spend $20k for a piece of equipment might as well put the $6 into air, right?

I have both the Clymer and the factory manual for my bike. Bought the Clymer first and it was ok. But with the addition of the factory manual, I do like the factory manual better. Having both sources is great. I have found different angles of pictures and it is always a help. If the text contradicts I always use the factory version. Have saved money and learned alot about my bike. I have always had mechanical ability on cars, trucks, mowers, tractors and such, so I enjoy the working on my bike my self.

As said before use e-bay. I bought both manuals off ebay and saved money by doing it that way.
