Default Harley service manual VS Harley service manual

Hi all.

Does anyone know if there is a difference between the HD service manual you can buy from your dealer, and an OEM shop service manual? I found an "official factory service manual" online for my bike. Just wonder if the books the HD techs use are the same as the ones we can buy.

Not too sure what you're asking here.... I have the HD Service Manual i bought on ebay for $60... part # 99482-09. It's got everything imaginable in there. I don't know of any other service manual besides the Claymer book, which has the same stuff.

Hey spydyr.

I'm not talking about the clymer books. Both of the manuals I am talking about are HD publications. One is the manual that you or I could buy at the dealer or like you said, on ebay, and the other manual I found for sale online seems to be meant for HD techs working in dealer shops.

The hd pn for the manual for my bike is 99481-98 . That covers the 97 and 98 dyna models.

I found another HD manual. http://www.amazon.com/Davidson-Servi.../dp/B001X6J0ZQ This one is titled "official factory shop manual". The HD pn for it is 99481-97

I'm trying to find out if there is a difference between the two. Is one better than the other kind of thing.

My book is the same as the Dealer has, I bought it from them and I looked at one back in the Service Dept. it sells for around $60.00.
As far as I know the book you can buy over the parts counter is the same as the one in the Service Dept.

Thanks for the replies guys. krazy3, I found one on ebay for sale. I'm going to pass on it anyway. I've used the the regular service manuals before so I'm just going to go with that again. The only info I found about the "authorized factory service manual" that makes it diff than the regular service manual is that the pages are not numbered. This is the link to ebay where I found the factory service manual in case anyone is curious.

BTW, anyone have some extra sun they can part with? I am enjoying yet another rainy 40 degree day.

There is no special manual for the techs.
99481-98 is for 1998
99481-97 is for 1997

If you have a 1998 model Dyna, get the 99481-98

This would be the first I have ever heard of it. I'm sure there is just one.

The most the dealer could have over us is maybe the supplementals.

i got my manual from Lakeshore HD at 20% discount and no shipping at the time. all the years i worked at family dealership we used the same manuals we sold to customers and local shop here does same. The manuals mirror Mil Spec requirements and are very thorough compared to haynes or clymers.

The shop manual that you buy from the HD dealer is as complete as it gets. I can't imagine an HD tech's manual (if there is such a thing) being any more complete.
