Changing Motor Color????
I would imagine the only way to do it right would be to tear it down and have the parts powdercoated. Just make sure to use a good powdercoater who is wiling to providereferences.
What Biker Trash said. I changed myengine from silver to black about 2.5 years ago. I traded my Softail Standard for a Heritage Classic. (had to throw that in)...Good luck/
Powder coating is DEFINATELY the way to go and it will last a lot longer than 5 years if done right. My old shovel engine has been done now for almost 12 yrs and still looks fresh today. The only disadvantage to "doing it right" is that you'll have to completely tear the engine down.
Biker Trash was right about finding the right powder coater to do the work! If you take it to a shop that doesn't specialize in this type of work you may end up with powder in places you didn't want it. [:@] Check them out thoroughly!!!
Gloss levels range from extremely flat to extremely glossy and the color selection is virtually endless. If you'd like to see some examples of powder coated engine parts check out the web site below.

Thanks guys.... I have a local powder coater that we have used in the past that can do some pretty cool stuff. I am working on a motor build and am tore between a complete swap to get rid of this ugly motor or complete tear down and build up and powder coat at the same time.
So many pros and cons both ways.
