Default Motorcycle Security

Found out today that some house a block from me was robbed. They took his trailer, his guns in the garage, and his three dirt bikes. I then found out this happened last year to two others. Now I'm a little worried. You can get into my garage by just by nudging the door till it unlatches. So today we moved the trailer in the garage, got my bike up there, locked it to the hilt and made the garage almost impossible to get into. Lucky for my dad we've stored his road king at a friends house where it's safe. Is there anything else you think I should do, and what do you do if you don't mind? Thanks.

If you can afford it invest in a GOOD alarm system for your house, but even the best system is only as good, as how fast the leo's are gonna respond, other than that get a big a$$ dog with a 12 gauge

+1 insurance. With some time, most locks, chains, etc can be broken. But it looks like you are doing what you can. Out of sight, locked up, hard to get to and hard to get out.

Living in the NYC metro area theft is always a issue. I got a baot load of very expensive tools, and three very, very expensive HD's in my garage. Not to mention all the other stuff. I have the three doors secured to the hilt. The entire house has a state of the art alarm....and I have two German Shepherd's who have got to be the two meanist sum bitches on four leggs. Besides that...since my GF is a total bum, and dont work, and since my Dad now lives with me there is always someone home. There are no kids around so the house is full of loaded handguns planted in stratigic spots.....but the thing that protects me most is the fact that EVERYONE who livs around me knows I aint the most sane person in the world, but its the people who remember the things I have done in the years past that give me and mine the widdest birth.

Alarm system on house and garage - linked to local Police

Best thing for a standard garage up and over door is made by Master - basically an external lock that stops the door being lifted open

Ground anchor inside for the ride

External security lighting

Theory being locks etc will delay them whilst Police turn up - usually inside 5 mins

And best by far - real nosy neighbour

We use these in South Florida to keep 150mph winds out of the house.

They are also a pretty good garage door lock.

Here in Texas we just shoot intruder's if on our property. We don't have to drag them into the house anymore. If thatdon't send a message well than we are like others good insurance, dogs etc.

Good advice if the door needs to be opened from the outside.

If you usually only open the door from the inside there are a number of possibilites for installing latching hardware on the inside of the door that doesn't even require a lock, like slide bolts or pins thru the roller channel.

Of course, an electric door opener would prevent the door from being forced open as well.
