HDF reminds me of the old CB days

RE: HDF reminds me of the old CB days
I used to live at the base of the San Gabriel mountains in Southern California that overlookedmost of the Los Angelesvalley. On a clear day after the Santa Annas had blown throughI could see all the way to Catalina Island. I used to sit at my desk looking out at the lights spread out below me working the CBwhile my older brotherbent and soldered thin-railslot car frames - Remember those? Well, in those days I had built my own radio complete with tubes and home-brew circuit board. I didn't need alinnear amp because I hada cubical quad antenna mounted on a mast and a real sweet SNR. Needless to say, when I keyed the 'ol mic - the greater L.A. valley heard what I had to say. Around 0100 - 0200 hours most nights I'd key up and slip an old stereophonic LP onto the player (remember those?) and play Martin Denny's"QuietVillage" as a sign off. It got to be an expected thing and if I was late I'd start hearing traffic requesting it. Ah... the early days. Life was pretty sweet back then!

The internet seems to be an outlet for those who have nothing to say, but insist on saying it anyway.
Listening to truckers on channel 19 makes me think the CB is the same.

I agree the internet took a lot away from the radio.
Here's my latest;
But I am still trying to find out if anyone knows how one of these would work in the bike;

ex tech license WB6GQU (now reassigned). I was part of OSCAR II (orbiting satellite containing amateur radio) in the 60's and that was a real thrill. I wa also part of the Vietnam MARS network (military affiliate radio service) during the late 60's operating maritime mobile with a complete Collins "S" line in the South China Sea. At least thats what I had to say to be legal from where I was stationed. I let my license expire while I was in the Army and stupidly never renewed it.
I was a CB dealer and played with CB during the 70's until it became totally useless. At the peak of CB even linears were useless unless you wanted to work the skip.
I agree that the internet has replaced much of amateur radio and CB simply because it's much less expensive and because the anonominity of the internet.
3's and 8's to all of you that stayed with the real deal.

I never did the CB thing much. Sure, when I was a driver, but never to much. Seems that cell phones and forums have killed the radio operators. I will say, though, that I really enjoy talking to people all over the place. I hit these forums ever night, and with the internet, ya get to actually show someone something, instead of going with the visual in your own head... just sayin'...

I used to run a 128xlr but I'll be damned if I can remember if that was the Uniden or the Cobra model...oh well... I had it detuned a bit as to not overdrive my Palamar 250 "heater" which I ran through a K40 magnet mounted whip... Loved playing RT (radio tag) I remember having a powered mic for it too with a Chrome face...
