what does the compensator sprocket do?
trying to understand my motorcycles better, what's that thing all about?
i see the one on my new dyna is welded on while the one on my former shovel was bolted on.
not sure if i am saying that right.

I just reduces the the amount of power spikes (for lack of a better description) from the engine to the wheel. There are rubber dampers inside of it that soften the power transfer if you will.

my bike has been running funny, it's over-compensating somehow.

is that cuz of the unforginving nature of the chain? i noticed bel;t drives do not have compensators.

Not sure what you mean,its probly welded to the cover but its still a bolt.The compensating sprockett takes up the shock from the engine to the tranny,its supposed to give just a little when you let out the clutch or when you shift, also to take out a little vibration.Thats the theory anyway.

Ok reread your original post and my bad! I have no idea what you are talking about. I thought you were referring to the new isolation sprocket.
