Definetly the Standard. To me there's nothing nostalgic about the Classic. I don't recall any nostalgic Harley that had bags that look like the bags on the Classic. As far as nostalgic go, the bags on the standard have been around alot longer plus they don't look like they're beat up after just a few years. Also, the cast wheels allow you to do road side repairs on most flats. You can always add cruise if that's your thing.

+1 -- the standard bags have been around for years and years-- no bags I've seen on older Harleys look like the hard leather ones that the Classics have. I also like having more painted surfaces.

I bought a classic because I found a deal on a used one. I like the wide white walls and I like spoked wheels because they look good. But I like hard bags better. So, someday I'll change to hard bags on my classic! Then I'll have an excuse to paint the whole bike because I can't match the bags!

I bought an 08 FLHR for the same reasons mentioned, lockable hard bags, tubeless tires, and better seat, I added cruise when I bought it. I do like the looks of the spokes & whitewalls..
Once you spend some time comparing the two I think you'll be pretty decisive on the the things you prefer.

Classic for me.
Two guys I ride with have RK standards, so if I got one I would have to be different.

It really won't take much to change either one into a bike that is almost like the other. You can get a standard with spokes, you can take the wide white walls off the classic, you can add www to the standard, and you can get two sets of bags reguardless of which one you own. The main thing is, by a Road King and get riding.

Got the standard, then picked up a set of wheels off ebay from a classic.
Got the WWW and spoke wheels, cus that's what I like.
Looks great and is the best of both worlds.

I got the standard because I liked how the bags became part of the bike. I also like the Classic, so it was a tough choice. Good luck with your decision!
