RE: first time i ever saw bike leasing
A friend of mine tried to tell me that they were doing this at my local dealer but never saw anything when I was there. I am curious to see how many follow suit. It is getting more like a car market every day. I wonder also how they will determine the value after the lease in which you are making the payments towards.

mikes famous just started this recently I'm sure they will determine residual value same as they do with cars but who wants to invest chrome (money) on a lease unless you are sure you will be purchasing the bike

sure ain't that much cheaper leasing than financing. Doesn't make sense to me, I could see if it if payments were about 50% of finance like a car. The 08 fatboy leasepaymentis only about $50 cheaper than my financepayment. I guess, if you wanted a new one every year that's be the way to go.

BUT.... did you put $$$ down when u bought??? have to figure a lease is with no money down....figure what ur payment would be with that.

I only had to put $2k down, not alot if you think about it. Pretty much just paid for the accessories I put on it before pick up. And with the lease it still says you have to pay for all the fees (acquisition/security deposit). So still you have to put some money down.

No way in hell! Just got out of a lease on a Jeep Cherokee and it was expensive (to the tune of about 4 grand) to get out of it. Mileage alone will kill you because there's not a biker I know that doesn't put more miles on the bike than they do their car. And if you turn it in before the lease is up, you're stuck making the payments for the rest of the lease term. Not to mention bikes are more prone to damage than cars are. And, no customizing allowed (in most cases).
Like someone else said, you can finance for those prices, do what you want to it, and it's your's at the end.

I've heard of it but haven't seen any dealers advertising it here. Doesn't seem much of a bargain to me. I think it would be cheaper to buy the bike andsell it yourself after 3 years.

That is interesting. This is going to expose HD financal to the used bike prices as they are returned. I hope they know the resale has sliped and they over charge in the lease payments to compensate. If not, they are going to be holding the bag.
It does make some sense for some people that buy a bike and ride it very little, or many others buya new bikeand sell/trade the bikes within a few years.
