Default Don't get upset....Safety First

Today I hear is National Ride your Bike to Work day.
I couldn't ride today, but did notice something as I was driving to work. I see this almost everyday.
Riding a bike with short pants on, or a short sleeve tee shirt?
I know it "looks cool".
Do these people ever think what would happen in a split second if a car bumped them and they got tossed off the bike at 70 mph?
I am not saying they should wear full safety gear but at least wear long pants.
Since I got rear ended a couple of years ago, (I was riding at 45mph and the car that hit me was doing 65mph) I always wear chaps, a jacket, boots that cover the ankles, and gloves, along with a full face helmet.
I want to live to ride another day. I only get one chance at life, I want to keep it as long as I can.
I hope it dosen't take an accident to convince these people to wear something that will protect them a little more than shorts and a tee shirt.
Ok, I am off my soap box.

Do you really think wearing a long sleeved shirt is going to prevent road rash crashing at 70mph versus wearing a short sleeved one? Gimme a break.

&nbsp\\;
what about your crotch and ***?
are your chaps, jacket, boots and gloves 'armored' motorcycle-specific items?
do you wear a racing neck brace and a back hump?
do you refuse to break the speed limit?
do you refuse to ride in the rain?
do you refuse to ride in the cold due to the fact that you can get frostbite?
do you refuse to ride in the heat because you could get dehydrated?
&nbsp\\;
my point is:
&nbsp\\;
you can ALWAYS be safer. you can always make your risks less.
&nbsp\\;
BUT:
&nbsp\\;
it's about personal choice.
&nbsp\\;
ride in whatever you feel comfortable in, and don't worry about what others are wearing.

the&nbsp\\; long sleeve shirt gives a false sense of security..&nbsp\\; you go down you are going to get fd up.&nbsp\\; i can see gloves, helmet and good boots as good items to wear, but if you go down hard enough, no safety gear in the world is gonna save your azz.&nbsp\\;&nbsp\\;

But it still prevents a bad sunburn, and that's a better reason to wear a long sleeve shirt

I've already had my bout with skin cancer. I'll deal with a long sleeve before I go through that again

I wear all my gear, hot weather or cold, mostly because I'm a coward. I hate pain.

I've always found that not getting into a crash is a sure fire way to prevent road rash. But that's just me.
