Default Stupid long legged rats....

I had a real bad day going yesterday. Got all the stupid stuff done and decided to hit the road. Got five miles down the road and a deer runs right in front of me, I mean I coulda slapped her on the *** she was so close. So I thought, I'm still alive, the bike is upright, day is getting better.

I'm always preaching here to scan the ditches for these long legged rats, but I myself got distracted by the bad day and was riding with blinders on. Watch out everyone these dumb critters will only get dumber as the rut approaches.

Heading out to Wally World to stock up on deer slugs tonight.

I was up on the Blue Ridge Parkway Monday evening riding between Jonas Ridge and Blowing Rock when 2 turkeys flew across the road right in front of me. The first one cleared me easily but the second one was too close for comfort. I didn't hit it (or it didn't hit me), but it was close enough that I ducked. All this time I've been watching for deer up there. Almost had fresh turkey.

Not trying to one up anyones post. I almost took out a buzzard. It came out of a tree by road and just missed my windshield. At least you can eat deer meat if you survive. I am not going to even think about cleaning a buzzard for table fare.

I almost got broadsided by a goose once.. On my way home right before I cross the river there is a big field usually fulla them.. Im watchen about 4 of the big honkers as Im aproachen, There runnen toward the road trying to get into the air. I'm slowen down thinkin these fat ol boogers are not gonna get more then 3 or 4 feet off the ground by the time our paths intersect. So I keep slowen down trying to keep an eye on them.. I never relized how hard it is to gauge distance usen 4 fat geese tryen to get into the air as one of the varibles. We all hit the same spot pretty much at the same time.. I dunno which direction those fat ol boys veered cuz I layed out over the tank, still hangin onta the apes.. One of em just cleared my back.. dunno what the other 3 did.. but I am supprised I wasen't coverd in Goose poop.. cuz they were honkin like somebody hadda hold of em with dinner plans..

Or he might have had you. My sons freind was killed by a turkey, it hit him in the helmet, knocked him off his bike, he most likely was going at or above the speed limit at the time. But man, to be killed by a bird.

Man, that sucks...but surely it was the fall, not the turkey that killied him right? But I guess it coulda snapped his neck....never know when you'll meet your maker.

My OL 's father was on his 4-wheeler, saw a flock (ok a RAFTER) of turkeys and he wanted one but he didn't have his gun. Looked over and said "I'm gonna get me one..." and then he sped off full throttle at the flock. He tried to run 'em over but as he went through 'em he jumped off...probably going about 40, and TACKLED one and went flying over the hill as his 4 wheeler went end over end. I thought he was dead....got to the top of the hill and saw him getting up.

Me: "You stupid son-of-a- bitch!"

Him: "Well I got him didn't I?"

...he sure did....he tackled dinner that night.

He later was killed on his 4-wheeler. Shot a doe and rolled his 4 wheeler on top of himself getting to it. He was found the next morning under it....He looked at my OL' brother in law and said "Go see the size of that doe...." He died 2 days later. That guy was a true hunter!
