Default 1st 1000 mile service?

Im just about to need the recommended 1000 mile service. I am wondering what all this will cosist of? My dealer is trying to stick a $285 price tag on it.
If anyone can help I would really appreciate it.

My dealer included mine with the bike.

They did a complete oil change/engine oil & filter/ trans oil/primary oil. Adjusted the clutch,re-torqued critical fasteners, check drive belt tension,
inspect brakes, lights etc.

You can do it yourself if you get a service manual but be sure to make a service log and keep all of your receipts for warranty validation. The 1000 miles service is very important to do. Especially the oil change & critical fasteners.

That's pretty average what a dealer will charge.

You're worried about the 1,000 mile service? Oh boy....wait until you hit your 5,000 mile service. That will run you about $345.00, then the 10k, 15k, 20k, etc... It may bea bit late to mention this to you now......but you do realize that H.D. stands for, Hundreds of Dollars, don't you? Welcome to the brotherhood my friend!

Buy yourself a manual. That's the best advice I can offer you.

Like someone said, a competitive price from dealer...If you know someone they might do it a little less than the dealer. I know that Yamaha charges $300.00 dollars for their first service. Good Price. You also may want to check into synthetics. Cost more!!
Hope this helps

Mobil 1 V-Twin, $9 a quart, 3 to 4 quarts. Harley Chrome oil filter, $12. 1 quart Mobil 1 synthetic gear oil, 75w140, $16. 1 quart primary oil, any cheap stuff, $4. Three to four hours of fun wrenching on your own bike. Knowing that the service was done right, priceless.
