Americade
Since I'm a fairly new rider and haven't beent o any "national" rallies yet, I'm wondering about the upcoming Americade in Lake George, NY. I hear it's a mixof makes, with about 30% HD...........anyone been there and can you comment? I'm not yet ready (too far) for Laconia or Sturgis.
I went last June. It is really nice around that area. Beautiful riding. Just be prepared for the large number of bikes. Pretty slow moving traffic in the evening especially. Lots to see, pretty similar in many ways to other rallies. Have fun! Ride Safe!
I'll be there again this year, Thursday till Sunday. This will be my 7th time. I think that the percentage of H/D's is probably a lot higher than 30%. You'll be able to see about any kind of bike there is..........new & vintage. It's a good time & this is a rally that you can take your family to. (even the kids) If you have really loud pipes, you may want to think about putting some baffles in. The law enforcement will write tickets for obnoxiously loud pipes. Other than that, be carefull & have fun!
As a rule I don't do rallies as they are usually just a huge party. Daytona, Sturgis, Laconia, etc. But this year, I'm going to Americade. It's more my speed being "family" friendly. I'm going with a group of men from a club I'm now a member of. Riders of the Lamb. It should be be blast and I'm really looking forward to it. Going up Tuesday thru Saturday.
Been going for 12 years. Gets larger every year. And more Harleys! The area is great for riding. The roads in that part of New York are just fantastic. Vermont and New Hampshire...well, not as nice.
We hardly go downtown anymore. Maybe one nite. We hang at the Lone Bull about 3 miles outside of town. Hope you have reservations already. Most places fill up early.

thx 05.....we got a hotel, but in Albany....seems an hr away and OK. I guess as we get closer, we'll get an idea of where to hang to see vendors, bikes, etc?? Any suggestions from you veterans?

mitcht, Americade has a really cool way of displaying the vendors (except ya pay $$ few dollars) They set up at the "Million Dollar Beach" which is located a VERY short distance from Rt.9 on 9L at the very south end of Lake george. On top of Prospect Mtn. they usually have various cycle manufacturers displaying their new bikes and they do "test rides" as you'll follow a leader on a pre-planned route. You'll need to be pre-registered and get a wristband at the Registration center just to get up the hill.
Albany is gonna be a bit far and if your not familiar with it, its a nightmare. Im not suggesting downtown Lake George (im sure its booked) but ya might wanna google Bolton landing NY, or even Glens Falls NY and pull up some lodging.
There is a HD dealership in nearby Fort Ann NY (east on Rt. 149 from L. George) if your interested in that. One last thing, do yourself a favor!!!!!! (or anyone else whos heading up) Stop at any local gas station and buy the Warren County map by JIMAPCO, and maybee even the ADIRONDACK MTNS map by JIMAPCO. Will get you around any damn traffic jam and every scenic road in the area.
