They are all out to get you!!! Better take an UZI!!!

LOL - Dude, seriously? You planning on staying in dives and hanging out at questionable bars until the late hours?

Unless you answered yes, the odds are no, you don't need a "weapon". Besides, a fist and a crow bar do more damage than most knives anyway.

You might be cutting it close, time wise, for getting a CCW to have on a May trip. If you ever find yourself in a situation where you need a firearm, you will most probably have never needed anything so desperately in your life as you do , right then, need that firearm. A firearm, though, isn't a talisman. One should gain proficiency with any means of defense.
And this concludes todays lecture. Refreshments are located in the back.......

You are lucky that's all, I hope you never need to defend yourself or others. I was in a good area of town when a guy jumps out of the car in front of me at a red light and yanks open my door. I might have just lost my car but who knows what he had in mind? as it was he decided he didn't like my car with a pistol pointed at his head. I hope you and your family stay lucky.

i don't think its an issue of doing something wrong, or being in the wrong place. times have certainly changed (some good, some not so good) and i think one should always be prepared. you never know who might pull something on you, whether jump your car or bike, or just rob you. good luck, but like others have said if you don't already have a permit you won't get one in time for a may trip.

I've never even felt close to any situation where I thought I might need one. I avoid cities as much as possible, that helps.

I live in Illinois and this state doesn't allow carrying a gun. If they did I'd get a CCW permit, but 99.9% of the time I wouldn't carry.

Sure odds are you will never need to defend yourself but what about that rare time that you will? I prefer to be prepared.

If taking that trip without a handgun or knife would make you feel uncomfortable (like SCARED) then take the weapon of your choice or skip the trip. Personally, I have never needed a weapon on a motorcycle ride but I have only been riding about fifty years. I hear that all kinds of bad chit can happen but your proposed ride will likely be no more dangerous than your last ride around your neighborhood.
