Default 2009 FLHX Rear Brake

Been Riding 20 years. Just upgraded to 2009 Street Glide. Perhaps it's me...but....the new BREMBO brake caliper on this ride is too powerfull for the bike.

Once I locked it up on the way home (rear brake) and recovered. Ya think that would tell me something.... Then a month later I locked it up (rear brake) and went for a spill.....

Broke thumb, sprained wrist and $2500.00 later..................

Like I said I've been riding 20 years and the last 10 on a fat boy but this rear brake caliper is a monster. You press too hard and your LOCKING UP.
I wish I took the ABS option. It's like you "Need" the ABS option just to drive this thing now.....anyone else feel this way or should I go back for another rider course...LOL

Well, an ERC is certainly not a waste of time or money, but I think it's just a matter of getting used to the new brake.

You're used to having the mash the hell out of the rear to get it to work. Now you just need to press it lightly.

You'll get used to it eventually.

Thats what I want to hear....I never ever went down before and now that I did I'm a little freeked out by the whole thing. I'll try to get used to it.

Your right....I enjoyed mashing down on my Fat Boy rear brake.....Now it's like I have power brakes.....I "have to" get used to it. Later brother thanks

Try keeping your heel on the floor board so you only contacting the pedal with your toes. I took the ERC course and the whole time I was locking up my rear brake. I started pushing the brake with my toes instead of the ball of my foot and now I don't skid.

Iunlocku,
Good tip! I definitly was used to putting the arch of my boot into the pedal. I'll try that one. Slowing the heck down should help too!

I love the BREMBOs, the old harley brakes on my softail you did have to put some weight into it to stop. I think you just need to get used to them, and definately dont take your heel off the board. Good luck!

I have a Softail Springer and an '09 SG. Going back and forth between then is constant adjustment. You just get used to it.

I know what ya mean. I go between my '00 fatboy and my '09 Streetglide...quite a difference, front and rear.

Yeah, going from dual disk Brembos to that tiny little ineffectual Springer front brake is something else. I still love the bike, though!

Most of my bikes only had a rear brake. I have a had time beliveing anyone is haveing a had time adjusting to a Brembo rear brake. Try having a front brake at your disposal.
