Default Need Help...Normal Oil Usage???

I have a 08 SE Dyna.
It is using a quart of oil in 1000 miles.
Harley says this is considered normal consumption.
Let me know if you have this type of usage or not.
I would like to show them how abnormal this really is
with your feed back.
I will be contacting my attorney because I feel they aren't
going to do anything about it.

Thanks for any feedback you can give me.

Definetly NOT normal. Your valve guide seals are defective or you rings did'nt seat. "Normal" can vary depending on how you ride. Do some searches here for "oil consumption". Can vary from hardly any between changes to 1 quart per 2500 to 5000.

Sorry I didn't give more detail..

OK here is the chronology..

I used 1 1/2 qts in the first 1000 miles before bringing it in for the 1k.
After getting it back I still saw usage and brought it back to dealer. They
kept bike for a few days (why I don't know) but the ran it and checked oil while they had it. Before I took it back they topped it off to the top x on the stick. Bike had about 1050 miles. Now I have about 1400 and it is down a 1/2

I would wait till it hits 2500 miles and then do a leak down test myself. I have a 03 with 50,000 miles and I have no noticeable oil loss. I have a 98 evo with 30,000 miles and she uses no oil that I can tell. I run syn and change every 2500 miles. Just the way I do it. Some say it is overkill, but that doesn't matter to me. When they start buying my bikes and doing my maintenance then their opinion on my oil change interval will matter.

I can't see any oil level drop on my 07 between oil changes.

I have 25k + on my 07 and I have never noticed any oil usage between 3k changes...your bike is/should be under warranty...take it to the stealer and make them fix it...

When my bike (06 Softail) was new, it used more oil than I thought was "normal". The service manager told me it would use some oil while the valves were seating. I now have over 65,000 and uses about 1/2 qt between oil changes (5000 miles).

Some oil consumption is normal, the question is how much! All vehicle manufacturers are different, HD is no different. Sometimes it's the luck of the draw with regards to this, you may get an engine that consumes next to nothing and you may get one that consumes 1 quart every 1k. The manufacturer dictates what is normal and what is not..
