Question break in period

When you buy a new bike I know that there is a break in period but how long and under what speed do I need to stay. Ive stayed under 60 and have not used 6th gear for 200 miles now. Is that enough?

While there are many opinions on the best way to break-in a motor, maybe now would be a good time to read your Owners Manual?

You should be fine from the miles you have now and having taken it easy/under 60 mph.

I was told when I picked up my bike to take it really easy the first 50 miles (under 4000 rpm) and then ride it normally but dont hot rod around for the first 500 or so.

One of the big reasons to go easy is the coating on a new set of tires remember - a little bit slick for the first 100 miles til it wears off completely.

I have always done the following. Even before I knew of this guy and his methods, I've always done something similar. Never had an engine problem, and they usually ran better than the same vehicle that was broke-in using the recommended procedure in the manual.

Didn’t you receive an owner manual with your new bike, if not go back to the dealer and get one. The owner’s manual has the break in routine and other info that you will require. My manual suggests keeping the rpm under 3000 for the first 50 miles and under 3500 rpm for 500 miles. Also avoid operating at any steady speed for long distances during break in.

Just remember.."Motoman" has nothing invested in your engine. Also, I don't believe everything I read on the internet.

That's a perpetual myth, there is no new tire coating...

by the book, ride it like U stoled it, or cycles of high -low rpm in 3rd gear.
I heard of guys doing all three and never heard of any of them having problems.

The guy 'claims' to have broken in 300 engines using this method...do people actually bring their 'engines' to him for break in?...I agree with not believing everything you read..that goes for magazines etc too...:>)
