What happened to the sound?
I've owned my Road Glide Custom for two weeks...already got 1600 miles on it. LOVE IT!!! Only problem...what did they do to that great Harley sound. They dropped the dual pipes and the new pipes are lame. My previous bike... a Yamaha Stratoliner sounded like a Harley with stock exhaust. This bike sounds like a Goldwing...well almost. Any ideas on getting that HD sound back.
Also is there a possibility of an after market (fake) dual pipe getting produced...I have to get that dual pipe look back. Sounds stupid but they always had things like this for the metric bikes...many guys were riding around with fake Hyperchargers that looked great but served no function.
I'm hesitant to change to a cross over real dual pipe...someone told me that the cross over pipe added to the rear cylinder heating problem...and that's one of the reasons HD went to the 2 in 1 on the 2010's.
Thanks
RonC

I think to get the true H-D sound you would have to buy a carbed bike, the new fuel injected bikes idle higher so they do not have the lope of the older bikes.
Of course since the MOCO is out to make the world a utopia where everyone is happy, they have those mufflers that do not allow any sound to escape the pipe. I am sure there will some aftermarket mufflers out very soon, that will wake it up a bit.

True duals, crossover, 2 in 1... they all do a great sound, provided you don't have a potato up your exhaust (i.e.: cat converter) and one into your breather (i.e.: air filter designed to muffle intake sound as well as do the filtering) to respect lame regulations thought to show people that "something is being done" rather than to solve the problem (if ever there is one!).Get some proper exhausts and intake, do a remap, and rejoyce.

Harly isn't trying to make a utopia......like he said above, it is our nanny, quickly turning to socialism government and the cradle to grave directives issued therefrom that this nation so craves.

As they said, some modifications to the breather and exhaust which are not too overly priced with aftermarket stuff and you get a better sound. Once you have Uncle Sam's head out of your tailpipe things sound better. Also some different cams will make is sound different and give you more preformance out of that 96er, but then we are talking bigger $$$.
My 05 WG sounds good, I'll trade you even up, my sound for your ride.
