Biggest mistake......
....I test drove a Softail Deluxe, now I want to trade in my Nightster!!
I thought I'd keep it forever, just started riding last year. But what a ride the Deluxe was...the comfort...love the floorboards. I'm short and thought I'd never be able to ride a bigger bike, and being a new inexperienced rider I was scared of anything bigger and heavier. But after riding a while, I feel good on the Deluxe (or Fat Boy). Even impressed my husband.
Unfortunetly, I missed out on the trade at MSRP this year. Do you think they'll do it again? I have a 2008. Otherwise, looks like my bike isn't worth too much for a trade. Any comments, advice. I know I can't be the only one out there who wanted to "trade in" after a year.
Thanks,
Sue

You probably can do better selling your XL outright anyway. Although if you're in a northern clime, it's the wrong time of year. You might look for a used FLST to take the pain out of moving up. It's the right time of year to do that. Of course, it all depends on how much you owe on your current bike and whether you can carry both over the winter.
Lots of people trade Sporties after a short time, because, like you, they decide they want the bigger bike for comfort on longer trips.

I was in almost exact position last Nov. I rode a 2007 Sportster 1200, had it since Apr 07, my first bike, put 13k miles on it. All decked out with full windshield, tach, and bags (I named it Bagster). Perfectly happy with it, was thinking of keeping it, if not forever, at least a long, long time.
Walked in dealer last Nov. picking up something, I don't even remember what. Salesperson I bought the Sportster from joking asked me time to trade up yet? I have no intention of doing so at that time, he showed me the 2008 Street Gilde. Now I'm a short person as well, 5'7" with 30" inseam, cannot flat foot even the SG. I paid right under $10K for the Sportster, he offered a trade in value of $7500, which is better than I thought considering the mileage I got on it. The 08 SG have 4800 miles, I sat on it, didn't even start the engine.
Shortly after that, they offered MSRP on 07 trade in, I pasted the 12 mos anyway. Was kinda looking at Soft-tail Deluxe as well, but by the time I add bags, tach, windshield, etc, figured might as well move up to a tourer. And the rest is history.
Happy riding!
Just go to your local shop and see what they will do.I got 8,500 for my 07 Nightster ,that had problems, bought a FLSTSC at lower than Kelly bluebook with under 8,000 miles,I am a happy camper.Their service dept sucks though, but low tech stuff is all I have now,so screw um.

I am getting my Heritage ready for my wife to try. She has had an 883L for 4 years now as well as a sport bike. I think she will really like the Heritage once she tries it, I need to put an easy clutch and some different levers on it for her first. I just bought a SG, but I couldn't part with the Heritage. I'm sure she will keep the Sportster no matter what, you can never have to many motorcycles! Good luck with your decision, I think you will enjoy the Softail.
I don't know if Harley will do the Sportster deal again, but if you really want the Deluxe work the best deal you can with your dealer on a trade, or sell the Nightster outright and then buy the deluxe.
