Default 1000 mile service price

I just got my 1000 mile service done. Had the synthetic oil put in. Was just wondering, what is the average cost for this service. Also, what is normal for an hourly labor rate at the dealer? I'm failrly new to the Harley game and it seemed a little pricey for no more than is done at 1000 miles (basically a fluid change).

Thanks

Prices depend on where you live, which HD dealer you use or independant shop.
Since you already paid for it why worry, just ride.

My 1000 mile with full synthetic - $240.

I'm hoping to get the H-D Service manual and "Fix You HOG" DVD for fathers day.

Full synthetic 197.00. It is in the shop being done right now. I will let you know if it exceeds that.

It's amazing how the same company and dealers operate so differently around the globe. In the UK we get the first service for free and just pay the difference if we want synthetics, However when it comes around to the 5000 mile service the cost to us is around £292 ( approx $550) Possibly to recover the costs of the 1000 free service.

At our dealership the BOB 1000 mile service is $284. Ours will be in next week for it after the long ride this weekend. 3 weeks 1000 miles not too shabby.

Dealerships in greater Houston area (5-6 of them, depending on how far you want to drive) charge an average of $75/hour labor. Most have set rates on the various services.

I bought the pre-paid service plan when I bought the bike new. Original quoted price was $2195 for 4 year, unlimited mileage services. I negotiated $1699 and said "yes." I've just had the 10K done, and would have had to shell out about $1300. By the time I hit the 15K I should break even, then from there through the end of 4 years I'm on the positive side of this investment (through July 3, 2009!). Nice thing about it is the synthetics are no extra charge.

The only down side to this is that it spoils me for having service done on the bike when I'm on the road away from this dealership... But I'm not complaining!

My 1K service was $300 on the Street Glide. They are supposed to go over every square inch of the bike with a fine-tooth comb and I know my tech did because I watched him. He worked on the bike for about 4 hours. With that much attention and the fluids (synthetic), I thought the price was fair.
