Default Sears Yellow jack - won't lower?

My buddy has his 01 softail up on a Sears yelow jack and no matter what he does he can't get the jack to lower? I have one too an dmine will lower the load if you turn the handle counter clockwise I believe. With his the handle just turns but the load is not released? What are we doing wrong here or is the jack broken?

Not to ask a dumb question but are the locks in place?

Some of the jacks have a tab or a lock bar so that they won't lower accidentally. Check and make sure it didn't set.

The safety lock is engaged. Look at the base of the jack handle and there will be a chrome lever that needs to be pulled out and disengaged.

MAKE SURE THE JACK HANDLE IS TURNED ALL THE WAY THE CLOCK-WISE BEFORE DOING IT OR HIS BIKE WILL DROP...

on another note, if he can't work a jack, what is he doing to his bike? nomsayin...

If your bud is doing everything else right... are you sure that he is raising the bike a scunch before releasing the chrome lock release handle?

I have that same jack..make sure to raise jack slightly then lift up on Hieght Lock Release and fasten the Hieght Lock Release to clip.

Slowly open the jack release valve by gently turning the handle counterclockwise to lower the bike.

It is strange that the TWO OF YOU couldn't figure it out. Maybe you should take your bikes to a indy....

This is why I save the manuals that come with everything I buy. I never read them, just save them... for moments like this, they come in handy.
