Bought a Fat Bob, now how to get it home?
After much debate I decided on and found an '09 Fat Bob w/ 6,000 miles for a good price, and have agreed to the purchase. I am heading the 180 miles to make sure the bike is as described (it's at a dealer) and pay.
But I am debating how to get it home. I'm in DC and the bike is in Pittsburg. So my 2 choices are fly(ticket would only cost $100) there and ride home (supposed to be 45-50 degrees Saturday). Or rent a truck and load it in.
Thoughts?
Think I can use a large Cargo Van? Door height is listed as 4ft.....
I kinda just want to ride.....but don't know those roads, new bike, etc....

If you don't ride, you'll regret it. If you do ride, you won't.
I bought a bike about 120 miles from home. Temps in the 40s and pouring rain. I got about 3/4 of the way home, stopped at a Big K Mart, bought a pair of swim goggles for the rest of the trip home. That was one of my best rides ever. It is a bond for sure.
Congrats and have a great ride home.

I'm not concerned about the bike, but without knowing you or your experience, not sure I would recommend riding her home. 45 degrees at highway speed is pretty cold... You'll get really tight without the proper gear, no matter how well experienced you are. I guess my recommendation would be to truck her back. Ain't worth beating yourself or your bike the day you get her. 4' height might be okay, call dealer for measurement to be sure, or someone here can chime in. Trailering isn't my forte'.

I ride year around in ohio and last poster is right 45 degrees is not very warm and you got to figure that is the high temp for the day and you need to ride from pittsburg to Dc thats about 250 miles long day at 30 to 45 degrees. I have done it and get me a ride in every month of the year but you need the clothing and you will need more stops so it will take longer.
If you had heated gear wouldn't be an issue at all.
Lol that being said day dad bought his 09 CVO roadglide in march of 09 the dealer was only 30 miles away road that home in 28 degree weather that was cold.

Great idea about the friend and a truck.......and if it is too cold to ride or the weather suddenly changes (you know how accurate weathermen are) you can load the bike up and get it, and you, home safely.

My suggestion is go see the bike - if its ok pay for same and ask the dealer how much to have it delivered - well worht it as he will have the insurance covering same in case of an accident / damage - I feel its too much of a drive if your only picking up same - If the dealer want the sale so much he will do a good deal on the delivery for you and use the correct haulage company -
