what made you want a harley?

Rode a Yamaha...really wanted a harley but couldn't afford until 3 years ago. Saved a ton of money, put down 6K and got the wide glide. Paid her off last year and couldn't be happier. Harley's are just way more fun, sound better, feel better, and ride better than my old metric.

I did not want a harley... i just wanted a good bike that fit me, fit my type of riding and looked nice. After trying 11 different brands / styles of touring bikes... the Road Glide fit me and won the competition.
Now what I did not know at the time was how much I would grow to love the bike. They are a sensual pleasure to ride and to look at... if the reliability factor equates to the pleasure factor... my purchase will be one of the best I have ever made.
but to each his own.

I read a motorcycle magazine that compared the two fastest bikes made at the time, a Triumph Bonneville and a Harley Sportster. The Sportster won the shoot out, being the fastest bike in both the 1/4 mile and top speed. Had to get one! When was that magazine article, 1969? Dang imagine that...Harley was THE performance bike!

I rode some Hondas and two different Harley Davidsons in the late seventies to the mid eighties after which I went without a bike until last year. When I decided it was time to get back into it, I was somewhat biased towards getting another Electra Glide but I wanted to check out the Gold Wing and BMW's touring bikes. I went to both the other dealerships first and found those bikes had absolutely no appeal to me whatsoever. So I am enjoying my 2009 Ultra, amazing bike, fits my kind of riding.

BWAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!
I had ridden dirt bikes and on road/off road bikes for awhile. Then my BIL came in the picture; not a 1%er but a hang around. He'd give me rides on his panhead chopper and when I was old enough, let me take her out on my own. One of the best times of my life so my bond with Harleys is an emotional one.

Wanted one ever since I was a little kid riding my "banana bike" w/playing cards clacking in the spokes. HD's just have that definitive sound, look & feel that other bikes don't. Once I could affort, bought a Sportster & recently upgraded to my Street Glide & couldn't be happier. Ride on!
